Lonesome George (George is lonely) is the last known individual of the Pinta Island Tortoise, subspecies Geochelone nigra abingdoni, one of eleven subspecies of Galápagos tortoise native Galapagos.George Islands to be aged 60-90 years, and be in good health. He has been labeled as the world's rarest creatures, and is a powerful symbol of conservation efforts in the Galápagos and internationally.

George was first seen on the island of Pinta on 1 December 1971 by the American biologist Joseph Vagvolgyi., George caged with two women from different subspecies, but although eggs have been produced, none of which hatched
