A teenage girl almost died of blood poisoning through the wearing tampons. Conditions that attacked suspected TSS. What is TSS?
Paige Roffey (15) had collapsed at his home in Rayleigh, Essex, England, with toxic shock syndrome (toxic shock syndrome / TSS) after using tampons for 4 hours. He had asked to go home Southend Hospital, where he treated, who expect it to have the virus. However, Paige rushed back to hospital after fainting in the bathroom.
Sarah (39), Paige's mother told me, the doctor said that Paige was in critical condition which made him in a coma for two days. "I sat on the bed beside my daughter and planning a funeral. I do not think he'll make it past that," he said.
Doctors continue to observe the development of Paige, then gradually reduce the dose of medication. They had warned her that Paige may have brain damage coma.
Fortunately, Paige's condition improved and he could leave the hospital after 10 days. Paige's sufficiently recovered when transferred to Basildon Hospital for a week. Under conditions still weak, he returned to school and was determined to warn other young women against the dangers of using tampons.
"I still feel sick, but I get the strength back. I just wish more people knew about it," Paige said, as quoted Dailymail.
Toxic Shock Syndrome
Toxic shock syndrome is a disease that is rare, but quite heavy, which is caused by bacterial toxins. In rare cases, TSS is caused by trauma such as burns or insect bites or surgery incisions where bacteria can enter the body and cause infection.
TSS occurs when bacteria that normally live and not harmful to the skin, it attacks the blood supply and release toxins. This causes the blood pressure drops dramatically, as the main symptoms of TSS. Other symptoms such as muscle pain and diarrhea.
Anyone can be attacked TSS, both men, women, and children alike. The risk of TSS is greater in young people because parents tend to have the necessary antibodies to protect them from toxins cause TSS.
TSS attacked at least 20 people per year. Only approximately two cases per year, which has links with a bandage. In women who trigger the bandage, it is advisable to use a low absorbent pads during menstruation and then alternately with sanitary towels. If diagnosed and treated early with antibiotics, there is a chance to recover.
